Eating Clean all the Time

Hey guys. How’s everyone doing today? Hope everyone is feeling good and ready for another informative blog.

I decided to base today’s post around eating, something I love to do LOL. I get asked a lot of questions about my diet. How much I eat, what I eat, when I eat… But the killer question has to be, “Do I eat take-aways/fast food”.

Now, I think I get asked this because of the lifestyle I live and promote. The lifestyle where I train 4-5 days a week, take vitamins, cod liver oils, glucosamine HCL, pre-work out drinks, whey protein, you name it! So I guess it’s a pretty reasonable question to ask right!

Well… the shocked faces I get when I turn around and say yes, it’s quite funny. Some people actually believe I’m winding them up…But here’s the thing right, although I eat it, love it and enjoy it…I don’t eat it everyday! A lot of people feel to drop fat or achieve there dream physique, no take-aways or guilty pleasures are allowed. I’ll explain why that doesn’t work later on!

You see, I’m just a normal guy who likes (LOVES) the thought of strawberry & cheese cake hargandaarz ice-cream. I love the thought of a chicken tika masala with peela rice, peela naan bread and some onion bargee on the side (by the way, peela rice and naan is the one with mince meat)

I love the thought of a zinger burger meal with a slice of cheese, a side breast and extra fries…I think you get my point here (Don’t get me wrong here I could continue LOL)

But I’ve learnt to control myself and not have it 3-4 times a week!

Depending on my goals at the time will determine how often I go for my guilty pleasures. If I’m cutting (trying to loose fat) once a week is fine. If I’m trying to bulk up, I will allow myself maybe twice a week.

I find that way too often people deprive themselves of the things they love all in aid of trying to achieve a goal, whether it be food or something else!

Now put yourself in this situation for a moment…You enjoy take-aways, fried chicken, pizza, chocolate, ice-cream, cakes, biscuits…whatever it may be. You decide you want to drop some poundage over the next 3-4 months, so you say to yourself, OK, I will eat clean for the next few months and eliminate all my guilty pleasures.

You reach two months into the diet and by this point your craving some chocolate or some good ole fried chicken, but you say to yourself, no no no, only 2 months to go, I must not break. Now well done for keeping strong so far, a lot of people throw in the towel at this point, but not you, you’re doing really well!

2 months roll pass and you’ve hit the 4 month mark… Now, you’ve not only lasted the whole 4 months but you’ve reached your goal! WELL DONE YOU! That was a lot of hard work and you made it happen.

Now you think to yourself…I’ve done it! The diet is over, my goal has been achieved…I deserve a treat! And this is where it all starts to go down hill. WHY you may be asking?

Have you heard of people that have dropped pounds if not stones of fat to put it all back on in half the time it took them to loose it. I know I have. And guess what… it happened to me. So I have been there 😦

You see, when you deprive yourself of something you love and enjoy for to long and return to it, it can get out of control. Imagine, all this time you’ve been thinking about it, wanting it… craving it even!?!

When you really want something and it is taken away from you, you want it more. As dietitian Beth Cecil says, “Over time these restrictions lead to cravings, binges and overeating completely ruining your attempts to improve your nutrition and lifestyle”

This is why I eat junk food when I’m dieting because once a week over a course of 4 months isn’t going to harm me…That’s 6 days of good eating (on top of training) vs 1 day of guilty pleasures…Moderation is key!

Before I go, I want to share an extract of an article I read the other day by Beth Cecil on depriving yourself of the foods you love as it makes so much sense and ties in wonderfully with today’s post:

Quote – “Food deprivation, or restrictive eating, may cause you to dislike healthy nutritious foods. And what happens when you chronically feel deprived? In most cases, once you have access to these “forbidden” or restricted foods, you binge or overeat. Perhaps we do this because we fear another restriction is just around the corner.

So ask yourself a few questions?

  • Do you feel guilty when you eat your favourite foods that are high in calories?
  • Do you crave foods you have labelled as “bad” on a regular basis?
  • Do you label foods as “good” and “bad”?
  • Do you eat your favourite foods only if you feel you deserve them?
  • Are you constantly “watching what you eat”?
  • Do you ever feel “out of control” when eating?

If you answered yes to some or all of these questions, the chances are, you are depriving yourself of some of the foods you enjoy. And unfortunately, if the deprivation of food is an attempt to lose weight, the negative effects outweigh the benefits.

So in order to improve your chances of weight loss and boost your nutritional status, go ahead and stop depriving yourself of the foods you enjoy. This may be difficult at first, but here are some tips.” End Quote-

How true…And I think this applies to other areas in life other than food!

Quick Words of Wisdom

In life we have to work hard for what we want! I’ve realised that nothing worth while comes easy! We have to push and push until we over come any obstacles we may face!

If you want it bad enough, you can get it! Don’t let no one tell you it’s not possible! Believe in yourself if you want others to believe in you!

You see, we only have 1 life so why not make the most of it while you are here! Love everyone around you, tell your close ones you love them! Show appreciation to those you appreciate!

Finding the Right Balance

I was driving to work the other day when I realised that I’m constantly fighting against the clock. I’m living my life trying to do a lot in a small space of time. It got to the point where I started dropping certain activities and hobbies. Things I love to do in life which makes me happy. My life shouldn’t be like this and nor should yours.

But with the 9-5 routine, the gym, preparing meals, family and friends, sleep and whatever else we have going on in our lives; it can become tedious and at times quite stressful trying to balance everything.

I talk with a lot of people everyday and it seems we can all relate to this topic, “Finding the Right Balance”. Now finding this balance could apply to any area in your life, I’ll give you 2 examples below.

1) Drinking – Now I don’t promote alcohol, but let’s face it, most people enjoy a drink now and then. However, drinking every night is pushing it a little. Especially when you’re trying to drop a few pounds. In moderation, you can get away with. You just gotta be smart and have control!

2) Shopping – Now this applies to you men as well LOL. I know some people that will buy something online everyday. If not online, then all bets are on that you can find them down the local shopping centre or even up London. Funny, because these are the same ones that told me there trying to save up.

It now seems like people now use the excuse YOLO for anything and everything. I use to find myself saying YOLO whenever I would crave some ice-cream (when I was dieting)

I would use YOLO when I wanted to buy a pair of new trainers because they were on sale. It’s ironic because I was saving up at the time!

But by making excuses all the time you mess up the balance. Imagine you went for that ice-cream all the time while dieting, you would never reach your goal. This is why finding the right balance is so essential; can you see where I’m going with this?

Now I know life is short guys and I’m not telling anyone to not enjoy life or even deprive themselves of the things they love, but excuses won’t get us anywhere.

So the question still lies, “How can you find the right balance”?


1) Allocate Time – Sometimes when we have spare time we don’t utilize it as much as we can. We fill up that time by surfing the internet aimlessly checking Facebook or watching some reality TV show, does this sound like you? Instead, use this time wisely for bettering yourself or doing something which you have been putting of for a long time. Procrastinating get’s us nowhere in life…

2) Don’t do it so much! – Like the examples I listed above, if you’re shopping everyday but you still complain that broke and have no money, stop shopping so much! It really is simple. Guess what will happen to your bank balance once you cut down those expenses… Sorry if I sound harsh or patronising but tough love is needed sometimes!

3) Three being the magic number it is, I decided to use an example from one of my coaches – Leo Babauta as he sums it up so well.

 “Examine your life regularly – I use my running time as a time of reflection, and you should use your alone time similarly if you can. Often our lives become derailed from the track we set it on, and as a result we don’t realize where our lives are going until we really examine them. Or we can get so caught up in a routine that we don’t realize we can change it. Regular self reflection is the answer: think about how your life is going, how you’re spending your time, and decide whether you need to make changes. Then schedule time to make those changes immediately — or make the changes right away if possible.

Wrap it up

So guys, as you can see, finding the right balance will help us in all aspects of our lives. Remember, there is no such thing as the perfect balance. Think about it. When something is perfectly balanced it doesn’t move, it doesn’t change, it stays the same. However, with the right balance we can all move in harmony and strive for better things in life. So the next time you find yourself fighting the clock or drinking a little too much, just remember “Balance”.

Staying Motivated

Hello readers and welcome. Apologies for the delay in updates, life has been so hectic recently and I have been finding it difficult to balance everything. But I have devised a plan that should help keep me on track. I will be sharing this with you guys on another blog post. I think I will call it “Finding a balance” as we can all relate to that. Plus I feel everything in life is a balance. Anyway, back to the topic LOL.

I’ve had a number of requests to write a blog on staying motivated and it’s ironic as I was actually looking to do one for you guys.

Staying motivated…What does staying motivated even mean? Staying motivated is what helps you get up at 5.30am in the morning to do cardio when your tired but you do it because you set yourself a goal 4 weeks ago to get ripped! Staying motivated is studying at 11pm on a Saturday night when your friends are out drinking and having fun because you are chasing that degree! Staying motivated is pushing through when you really can’t be bothered any more! These are just examples, but what does the word motivation even mean, let’s take a look.


1) The reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way.

2) The general desire or willingness of someone to do something.

So if we look at example one, it’s the reasoning behind your action! You need to ask yourself, why are you doing this? Why are you waking up at 5.30 am to do cardio when you could be sleeping for another hour? Why are you studying Saturday night when you could be out partying? What is your reason for this? I feel digging deep inside your heart and asking yourself these simple yet powerful questions is essential for you to find out why you are motivated!

Looking at example 2, you can see without desire, staying motivated isn’t going to be easy. But then there’s also willingness. The willingness of what though?

The willingness to make a sacrifice! The willingness to put in an unlimited amount of work and effort for reaching that destination!

Because let’s face it, if you want to be successful, you have to make sacrifices. And to make sacrifices, you have to be motivated! Can you see the pattern here?

I’m a human being like the rest of you and let’s face it; it’s not easy to stay motivated all the time. But you need to remember your goal that you set yourself January the 1st 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 etc.

I use that as an example because that’s one of the periods we all set goals and come March you think to yourself, what goal? Why is that? Because you lost motivation!

So that brings me to my next topic.

How to stay motivated?


As mentioned above, it’s remembering the goal you set yourself. But you might be in a position like I have been in far too many times, where I remember the goal and have it in mind but still lack the motivation. Now it could be anything, from saving money to getting in shape. It could be that you want to start a new book and read a chapter every night. You might want to stop smoking but find the addiction unbearable. It could anything! Motivation is the driving force behind all of the above.

So let’s look at a few ways to stay motivated and some of the principles I adopt to in my everyday life.

1) Writing down your goals – I find that writing down your goals on a piece of paper and putting them somewhere visible is a powerful first step. Why? Because you can see them all the time! It’s that simple! Constantly seeing them is a constant reminder that you have set yourself a goal that you are trying to accomplish.

2) Pictures – You girls that say you want that J-Lo butt or you guys that want the Arnold biceps and ripped 6 pack abs! Get pictures of them and put them on your wall! Visualisation is a powerful tool! It all connects with Law of attraction – We will cover Law of attraction real soon!

3) Tell people – I find that telling people my goals whether it be family, friends or you good readers is a power technique. Why? Simply because I don’t want in 3 months time, you ask me how I’m getting along and I reply “I fell off”. Not a good look!

4) What you do today will help your tomorrow – Think about it, so simple yet so powerful! What you do today, will affect your tomorrow – I’ll let you sit and think on that! Food for thought!

5) Knowing that a year from now if I stay motivated, I will become a better me! Knowing that if YOU stay motivated, a year from now, YOU will become a better you!

6) Knowing that by staying motivated, I’m also motivating others around me! Say you and your partner both smoke. By you stopping, that might motivate them to also stop. We are all energy and we work of each others energies! Deep right!

7) The psychological factor – How great would it feel knowing in your mind that you set a goal and was actually motivated enough to stick to it. This is good mentally, physically and spiritually.

8) Others commending you – The amount of respect you get pushing through all the mental barriers of achieving your goals and staying motivated! As humans we like attention (some even love it lol) And having others respect you (a form of attention) means a lot to us! Another one to dwell on.

9) Knowing that you are better than you was yesterday! And that tomorrow you will be better than you are today!

10) The end goal itself – Looking in the mirror at that J-Lo butt or your Arnold biceps! That 4 year degree you been studying for! That 50k job you work so hard to get to! A healthier fitter you!

Wrap it up

So you see, staying motivated is possible proving you are willing to work at it. And like anything in life whether it be a relationship, studying, sculpting your body or even gaining self confidence, you have to be willing to work at it.

I do hope this blog finds someone who needs it most at a point in their life where they are lacking motivation, because I have been there and I know how it feels. It isn’t nice!

Like everything I do, this is coming straight from the heart and I hope I help at least one person stay motivated and achieve their goals today!

Hello my good people. I hope you are all well today.

I was just about to go sleep to catch some zzz’s but had to get some news of my chest before I did. I have made my mind up now guys; I am going to step on stage next year! For some of you that are not familiar with that term, it means I am going to compete as a Bodybuilder. It’s going to be one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever faced, but I am determined to prove to myself that I can do it.

I’m a firm believer in setting goals and reaching them and if you ask anyone around me they will tell you the same. When I set my mind to something there’s no going back!

I will be competing against some of the best physiques in the UK which means I have to bring my A game!

I will be entering the UKBFF on the 11/11/13 – That’s 14 months to totally change my body! I could enter a show sooner and a lot of people tell me I should, but I feel for me to give 100% and look my best, more time is needed!

I am very excited about this challenge and positive that I will do well. To be honest, I’m going there to win, no 2nd place business!

On that note, congratulations to Rob (Chiseled Ice) who came 1st place today in his class at the NPA Bodybuilding show. He looked incredible and continues to inspire me to push through whatever life throws at me! Check out his site at –

Sometimes when you’re on the go, it can be difficult to eat healthily. This is where home made shakes come in handy. Do not be fooled, you can pick up some of the items I’m about to list below for a reasonable price if you shop around wisely. All you need is a blender and some ingredients. Now what I’m about to list is just one of the crazy drinks I make filled with Protein/Carbs/Fats/Antioxidants/Vitamins/Minerals – I know…. great right! Get creative and add or take away any of the ingredients:

Whey Protein

Grounded Oats

Frozen Berries

Mixed Vegetables

Pumpkin & Sunflower Seeds

Almonds and Cashew Nuts

For flavour, add – Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Natural Vanilla extract, a hint of ginger & lemon juice.

At this point, some of you are thinking (this guy is crazy) LOL! I don’t blame you. I can’t lie, when I first heard of these kind of drinks, I was put off. But the flavours come together nicely and mask the vegetables.

Anyway, just a quick one for you guys. Will have more updates this week.
